What’s happening at Island Bazaar?

KOLOHE UKULELE CLUB plays all authentic Hawaiian repertoire. Kolohe meets every Tuesday of the week at 7PM, is directed by Uncle Henry Kamae, co-directed by Doug Ramsey, and managed by Kent Olson. All are welcome to join Kolohe Ukulele Club and learn the beautiful melodies and aloha spirit of the Islands. Your $5.00 donation per session is appreciated.

SURF CITY STRUMMERS plays American Popular Classics, and meets every Friday morning at Island Bazaar 10:30AM. Surf City Strummers is directed by Shirley Orlando. Your $5.00 donation is appreciated.

UKULELE JAM meets every Thursday night at Island Bazaar at 6:30 PM. Ukulele Jam is directed by Shirley Orlando. We also play a repertoire of American Popular Classics. Your $5.00 donation is appreciated

STRING THING! Meets Saturdays at 1:00 PM. Guitars, ukuleles, fiddles, and any other non-amplified instruments all are welcome! This group is very laid back- solos, duets, group songs, etc. We have heard a great variety of music in this group. If you like smaller, informal jams, come and try String Thing!

Sept. 11, 2010 - 5:30pm (Come earlier if you would like to eat) Ukulele Jam and Surf City Strummers will play a patriotic 9/11 program at Back Home In Lahaina (Restaurant) in Carson (519 E. Carson).  Shirley will pass out the play list and directions on Thursday and Friday, the 9th  & 10th of September.

Sept. 13, 2010 - Mondays, 7pm, beginning September 13th.  Kevin Bullat will be teaching a Lap Steel class.  Lessons are $48.00 per four week month.  Kevin plays in the renowned “Smokin’ Menehunes” band and will cover the basics in Lap Steel playing and performance.

Sept. 15, 2010 -  Beginner Ukulele and Beyond Beginner Ukulele start on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 and 7:30p.m.  See detailed information previously mentioned in the newsletter.

Sept. 17, 2010 - Surf City Strummers will play at the Costa Newport Senior Residence, Friday, at 2pm.  Shirley will pass out directions, & playlist.

Sept. 24, 2010 - Gospel Night at Island Bazaar.  7pm.  There will also be featured guests singing on stage.

Sept. 25, 2010 - Saturday.  Southern California Dulcimer Heritage Festival- Island Bazaar will display at the Festival and Shirley will lead two workshops.

Sept. 26, 2010 - Sunday.  The Southern California Dulcimer Heritage will have their annual dinner at Island Bazaar. 5pm.

October 2, 2010 - opens 8:00am Southern California Ukulele Festival.  Island Bazaar will have a display and Shirley will lead a workshop.  Aldrine Guerrero, Victoria Vox, and Fred Thompson headline the concerts.  Lots of workshops and ukulele events.  The Festival will be at the Cerritos Park East Community Center, 13234 E. 166th St., Cerritos, 90703 - between Carmenita & Shoemaker.  Jake Shimabukuro & Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain- discount tickets at Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. Folks, we have an opportunity to buy a block of tickets in the prime orchestra section of the Performing Arts Center for the Shimabukuro/Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain performance.  The date is March 27th.  The prime orchestra seating is priced at $40.00 per ticket.  I can buy them before they go on sale for $32.00 each.  This is 20% off ticket price and we would all get to sit together.  I think it would be a kick in the pants, and a wonderful experience!  I need to have a resounding “yes” and approximate count before placing the order and plunking down the money.  You would then have 30 days in which to pay Island Bazaar.  Please let me know at 714- 843-9350 if you will commit to buying a ticket.  Thank you.  Shirley

Please remember that we are well aware of the internet which is the silent killer that has waylaid many a good establishment.  We are proud of our ukuleles, our prices, and our service.  Please consider this when purchasing a ukulele, and don’t click that mouse until you have checked with Island Bazaar!  In most cases we can at least match, and oftentimes beat the internet on prices and ALWAYS surpass on service and dedication to you!
